The PC Engine was a collaborative effort by Hudson Soft and NEC releced in 1987. Also known as the Turbografx 16, this was the first 16 bit console on the market (albeit with an 8-bit cpu). Originally developed to better the NES, it ended up competing against the new 16-bit generation of consoles
